When I stumbled upon the "Owners of FeLV+ / FIV+ Cats" Facebook group, I never imagined I’d be a “top contributor.” It’s not exactly a title I sought or ever thought I’d hold.
But there I was, scrolling through yet another page of posts, when one stopped me in my tracks. Someone had shared their story—a heartfelt, lengthy post that I couldn’t resist screenshotting in parts to save.
The Original Story
I don’t know exactly when or how this group began. What I do know is that it’s grown into a private community of over 20,000 people from all around the world. Tragically, because of the nature of FeLV and FIV, the group keeps growing.
What’s truly remarkable is how this enormous, diverse group—made up of people with all kinds of beliefs and backgrounds—remains so compassionate and supportive. FeLV has a way of humbling you in ways you’d never expect. The realities are stark and harsh.
Yet here we are, united by love for these amazing creatures, sharing our stories, and reaching out for help when we need it most.
To the person who created this group: I’m in awe of what you’ve built. Your efforts have given so many of us a lifeline. My hope is that, together, we can push forward in the fight for treatments and a cure.
